Honeybaked ‘99’s win at Lambton Golden Blades

The Honeybaked ’99 team traveled to Sarnia, Ontario for the 16th Annual Lambton Sting AAA Golden Blade Tournament in early September.

The Atom Major Division featured five teams from Canada and three from Michigan. After opening with a 2-2 tie against the hometown Lambton Jr. Sting, Honeybaked won three straight games against the Huron Perth Lakers (7-1), the Mississauga Senators (3-1) and Sun County Panthers (10-4) to advance to the final.

In the championship game against Little Caesars, Honeybaked came out flying, scored two goals within the first two minutes of the game and never looked back. The team continued to force the play, out shot Little Caesars 30-16 and wrapped up the championship with a 6-1 victory.

“It was nice to see our kids play well together; it was a true team effort,” said Honeybaked ’99 coach Darin Young. “It was also nice to see two MWEHL teams advance to the finals and we look forward to continuing this rivalry and tradition between our two teams throughout this season and hopefully years to come.”

The ’99 HoneyBaked is: Christian Rawling, Adam Schornak, Joey Dumas, Connor Fredrick, Jake Young, Gregory Pine, Jack Robbins, Brett Sandora, Jon Sanderson, Connor McGinnis, Thomas Hernandez, Cameron Babiak, Dominic Barton, Marcus Morton, Paul Cotter, Brendan Murphy and Jake Transit.

The coaches are: Darin Young, Mark Sandora, Dan Robbins and Derek Rawling.

Lansing Capitals AAA teams win twice at Motor City Cup

The Lansing Capitals Midget Major and Midget Minor squads both opened the season with victories at the Little Caesars Motor City Cup on September 12-14 in Detroit.

The Midget Major Capitals defeated Michigan Elite, 4-2, in the quarterfinals, beat the Indiana Jr. Ice, 2-1, in the semifinals and beat MDHL Green squad, 2-1, on a goal by Reid Boucher in the second overtime during 3-on-3 play.

The Capitals Midget Major team is: Brennan Knoblock, Anthony Griffore, Emerson Auvenshine, Bobby Chapman, Reid Boucher, Grant Dixon, Sam Hadar, Derek Johnston, John Wiegman, Mark Fleming, Robert Cathcart, Andre Rakas, Robert Wiener, Karl Beckman, Trevor Campbell, Ryan Brown, John Wiegman and Zack Paulakovich.

The Capitals head coach Dean Dixon and assistants are Rick Sprague, Jay Laing and Ray McKenzie.

The Capitals Midget Minor team won three straight one-goal games to take the tournament title. The Caps beat the Pittsburgh Viper Stars, 3-2, in the quarterfinals, beat Pikes Peak (Colorado), 5-4 in overtime on a goal by CJ Reuschlein and defeated the Canton Crush, 6-5, in the final in overtime on a goal by Frank Dreslinski.

The Capitals Midget Minor team is: Frank Dreslinski, Garrett Fuhrman, Cameron Ohrt, Andrew Brownlee, Ryan Thomas, Nathan Harris, Brent Duwe, Derek Ratkewicz, Kyle Loridon, Shane Redman, Storm Avery, Casey Prange, Kory Pehrson, Zachary Dorer, Curran Reuschlein, Jonathan Barr, Davis Dekorte and Stephen Scott.

The Capitals head coach Dean Dixon and assistants are Rick Sprague, Jay Laing and Ray McKenzie.
